Emerald Isle Press

At 75 years old, I decided I wanted to do five things: (1.) I wanted to refine my writing. (2.) I wanted to write and then be my own publisher. (3.) I want to publish a few books of friends whose work I liked and that was worthy of being published. (4) I wanted my website to provide an informative source for "what is happening" largely here on coastal North Carolina.

Writing: It is largely a labor of love, a hobby but with a specific objective: To publish interesting information that does at least one of two things: (A). Entertain. (B.) Inform and provide interesting, meaningful and useful information. With my first book, a 248-page photo-journal, ‘The Memory Man’, I achieved (A.). I have now mailed books to 14 states – all about a delightful old chap, who is loved and adored by thousands of people. He also has a photographic memory and is still working today (85 years old), at his first job: (hired -July 1945). Being an amateur photographer, I take most of the photographs myself. Transformative moment: Five years ago, I read this statement by Richard Branson of Virgin Airlines: He said – "If someone offers you an opportunity and you're not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later." I never forgot that. Three years ago, I started doing finally ‘exactly what I wanted to do – ’My first publishing attempt turned out quite well., selling over 1,000 books and is still selling very well. I work every day at improving my craft and above all – doing what I love to do. I am reviewing two friends books that have gotten great reviews from fellow writers here and in Raleigh, NC.

At 76: I can tell you – “It is never too late to be what you always wanted to be.”
